Learning Through Water Play
Children love to play with water, inside and outside, splashing, pouring and paddling! You don’t need water trays or expensive equipment - why not explore in the bath or use a washing up bowl with yoghurt pots.
In addition to being lots of fun, water play has a lot of learning benefits including:
Development of fine motor skills: Water play allows children to practice using their hands and fingers, enhancing their fine motor skills and coordination.
Stimulates creativity and imagination: Engaging with water enables children to explore and experiment, fostering their creativity and imaginative thinking.
Cognitive development: Water play involves cause-and-effect*, promoting cognitive development as children observe and understand the impact of their actions.
Sensory stimulation: Water play provides a rich sensory experience, stimulating children's senses of touch, sight, and hearing, contributing to their overall sensory development.
* In science, the cause explains why something happens. The effect is the description of what happened.
