Nursery rhymes to get your family moving

To keep healthy, young children need to move around for 180 minutes per day. At the moment, this can be a real challenge especially when you can only go out for a limited time. A brisk walk in the park with your child jogging alongside you is a good way to use your outdoor time but what about when you are have to stay indoors?

Get singing and dancing

Singing and dancing to nursery rhymes is an easy way to get your child moving and everybody in the family can get involved. Try the following:

  • Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes – A firm favourite with children at our Stay and Plays. At 1st Place, we start slowly then go faster and faster. It ends up being a great workout and the children love it! As an added challenge, you can gradually drop words from the song, eventually doing the actions without words at speed.

  • Hokey Cokey – Another popular song. To add a bit of fun, we play with the lyrics and actions. For example, we have the ‘Fishy Pokey’ and put our ‘fins’ in and out instead of our arms or we do the ‘Beary Pokey, putting our ‘paws’ in and out. Can you think of any more?

  • 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed – It doesn’t only have to be monkeys jumping on the bed. Try teddies, dinosaurs, frogs or even monsters – the possibilities are endless!

We are missing our families very much and would love to see how you are all getting on. Send us your images or videos by emailing Director@1stplace.uk.com or find us on Instagram @1stplacecentre and use #weare1stplace to share what you are doing.
