Mark making at home

Children use mark making as a symbolic language to communicate, expressing their ideas, thoughts and feelings. As the children express these early marks, they are exploring their fine motor skills along with hand and eye co-ordination to control their marks. Mark making is central as this is where the journey starts in early literacy skills.It doesn’t have to be with pen and paper. Have you ever tried turning a table or chair upside down and wrapping it in cling film? We did and what fun we had!Wrap the cling film around the legs to create a wall, enabling a blank canvas to paint or draw on. We explored with paint, coloured pens and bingo pens. Give it a go and encourage your child to make their mark!
