New Chair of the Board of Trustees

A warm welcome to Karen Walker, our new Chair of the Board of Trustees. Karen has held several trustee roles both in children’s charities and also in a medical charity. She is currently employed as CEO of a medical research charity, after 35 years working with children. Her roles included supporting the introduction of national standards for early years services; running a workplace day care service for healthcare professionals in partnership with the NHS; collaborating on the development of children’s centres in Bradford, West Yorkshire; and working at national level to lobby for improved funding for early years provision. 

On joining 1st Place, Karen said: “I am delighted to take up the role of Chair of the Board of Trustees and look forward to supporting the whole team in continuing the incredible work they do to support local families. I hope that there will be plenty of opportunities in the near future to meet the families that use our services and to get to know more about their hopes and ideas for 1st Place.”
