Thing of the Week - Growing, Little People, Plants and Things

As part of the launch of 50 Things in Southwark, we are focusing on 1 of the 50 activities in this amazing app. Next is ‘Growing, Little People, Plants and Things’.

Sow seeds, prepare the ground and develop healthy food choices by teaching your child about where food comes from. Your child will get excited about growing fruit and vegetables - and eating them! With many plants able to be grown in containers, you do not need a garden for this activity. You can start plants inside before moving them outdoors or they can stay indoors on a window sill.

Your child will learn that fruits and and vegetables need certain conditions to thrive and will also gain a sense of achievement as they care for their plants. As the plants grow, why not talk about the changes with your child? You could name the parts of the plant, and count and compare the size of different seeds and plants.

For more information on this activity including how to do it, the benefits, top tips and resources, download the free 50 Things app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
