Thing of the Week - Pitter Patter

As part of the launch of 50 Things in Southwark, we are focusing on 1 of the 50 activities in this amazing app. Next is ‘Pitter Patter’.

Children love to jump and play in puddles, it is such fun and lots of learning to be had!

All you need is a rainy day, take a trip to the park and jump in some puddles or just step outdoors during or after the rain. How about taking a bath toy with you or making a paper boat to float on a puddle? You could also take pouring toys or a container to explore the water.

Experiencing the rainy weather gives children the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the world and help develop language and conversational skills. Encourage children to talk about what they can hear and see, maybe stop to listen to the sound of the rain on an umbrella.

Consider some waterproof clothing on colder days, wellies, coats and waterproof trousers.

For more information on this activity including how to do it, the benefits, top tips and resources, download the free 50 Things app from Google Play or the Apple Store.
