Make your own sensory basket
Children, particularly young babies, love to explore through touch and sensory baskets provide the perfect opportunity for discovery. It is easy to create your own sensory basket at home. Follow our tips below:
Get started:
Find your container - You do not have to use a basket, it can be any container, even something as simple as a shoe box.
Go treasure hunting - Fill your chosen container with different objects and materials. These could be natural or recycled materials such as leaves, stones or fir cones, or objects that you find around the house such as wooden or metal spoons, corks and sponges. However, remember to avoid any object that is sharp or could be a choking hazard if your child is very young. If they are old enough, encourage your child to get involved in collecting the objects themselves.
Time to explore - When your basket is brimming full of treasures, let your child explore the different objects in awe and wonder.
To take this activity further, let your child discover what happens when they press these materials into playdough!
