Connecting with nature for our mental health

For Mental Health Awareness Week (10 - 16 May), the Mental Health Foundation are encouraging us to #ConnectWithNature. Nature can have immense benefits for our mental health. From a simple walk in the park, sitting in quiet reflection in the garden, noticing the clouds on your way to work or even having a plant in your home, it is possible to bring nature into your everyday life.

Nature can help reduce stress levels, promote creativity, and instil a sense of calm and joy so why not try the following to connect with nature:

  • Experience - Did you notice those branches swaying in the wind, that blossoming flower or hear the birdsong? Take the time to notice and celebrate the nature around you.

  • Share - Inspire others with your experience with a photo, video or sound recording.

  • Talk - Talk about nature with your friends, family, colleagues and encourage those around you to find new ways to get back to nature.
